The suggestion box

I've been in a bit of reading drought lately. I either check out a book or buy one, begin it, and then lay it down somewhere to pick it up again. Since I know a few of you are like English profs and stuff, I wondered if you may suggest some good reads. The only catch is they can't be any older than let's say 150 years. Um, Kay? And thanks in advance.

I just read Ian McEwan's Enduring Love, and I thought it was pretty good. If you haven't read Margaret Atwood's most recent scifi, Oryx and Crake, you might check that out. If you are looking for a laugh, I got a huge kick out the satirical academic send-up, The Blue Angel by Francine Prose.

Ah, Christine, I knew you'd be the one to recommend good reading material. I hope you're jamming to the shatner (though I doubt it, since I know I am a musical freak. I will have met the girl of my dreams the day we share the same soundtrack to life.) Hope you and AM are having a great holiday season.

Let me know if you discover any good books--I'm looking forward to having more time to read over break. If you are looking for something to REALLY occupy your time, you might try an Edward Rutherford historical novel. Have we talked about him? Stacey first recommended him to me, and I love reading one of his books over a long holiday break. As for the Shat, I have yet to download it. I'm putting AM on that task this week--I'll blog back with a full report! Happy holidays!

I'm (finally) reading _Life of Pi_. Scott's raved about it for a year, so here I am. You might also enjoy _Into Thin Air_ (about the '96 Everest disaster) or _Into the Wild_ (also by Jon Krakauer).
